Hope Larson’s blog | I Won an Eisner! »
Hope Larson and I are working on a graphic novel called Four Points. It won’t be out for a while, but here’s a teaser of the main characters, Alex and Cleo—giddy as they set out on their adventure, just like me! Follow the link to Hope’s blog, where she talks about this project as well as the Eisner awards and her fellow (awesome) women cartoonists. Hope’s work has been a huge inspiration to me and this project is an absolute dream come true. Stay tuned.

Roque Queen, by L. Sprague De Camp
from the LGAL Station Zero show
I made this poster for the upcoming Light Grey Art Lab show, Station Zero! Each of the show’s artists was sent their very own vintage sci-fi novel and was asked to re-design the cover as a huge poster. In my book, Iroedh, who lives in a strict, anti-emotion society on an alien planet, meets some human explorers who teach her about romantic love. She rebels against her society and goes on a pilgrimage to discover her destiny which, as it turns out, is for her to become the Rogue Queen and lead a revolution.
I enjoyed the campy, ridiculous plot and the super-cool heroine Iroedh, and I needed to express all my nerdy sci-fi art joy in my poster. I hope you check out the rest of the work from the show, all available for purchase as prints HERE!

Every Teenager Should Have a Summer of ’65
NY Times article here
This week I got to do a small piece for a short story about summer love and bittersweet memories. Hel-lo, favorite subject matter. This piece had a really quick turn-around, so I had to get loose. Always a rewarding exercise. I am pretty pleased with the result! thanks AD Erich Nagler

The Walrus: Summer Reading 2013
I had an absolute blast working on the cover for The Walrus Summer Reading issue this year. The concept was to feature two ways to enjoy a lazy summer read—good old books vs. digitally published periodicals! I was keen to illustrate the lush green beauty of summer, something I remember fondly from childhood summers and my parents’ enchanted-forest-like backyard. But my favorite bit of this image is the tuna sandwich!
I painted this image with a lot of extra room on the top and bottom, for the Iphone 5 version of the digital magazine! I recommend you pick the issue up in whatever form you prefer, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. Many thanks to AD Brian Morgan :-)

"Chambering" for the online publication Nautilus
This is one of a set of .gifs I made for a short story in Nautilus’ preview issue, that ended up getting cut. The story was about star-crossed lovers and the creation of the universe. I worked on this back in December, phew! Sometimes things don’t pan out, but that’s OK. Nautilus is a really interesting new publication, check it out. Thanks AD Len Small!

Lucky Cat (final, pre-animation)
I probably won’t get around to animating this for a while, with TCAF and a couple other things going on this month. So here is the final rendered piece. Thanks for following along! I hope the process gifs helped show how one can easily construct a space in photoshop.
I will have some prints of this as well as several of my other pieces and a new zine for sale at TCAF this weekend! Will you be there? I want to meet you.

Candy Capers #1 - Variant Cover C
(available for pre-order here)
I did one of the variant covers for the new Adventure Time spin-off comic series Candy Capers, starring Peppermint Butler & Cinnamon Bun and being written by Johnny Wander and drawn by Ian McGinty. I am beyond excited to contribute art to another stellar AT comic series. I love that BOOM pulls in lots of different artists for each of these series and continues to expand the AT universe. I can’t wait to read this issue!

Lucky Cat progress 2 (part 1 here)
I’ve been nitpicking at this since the last post. I did some re-framing and nudging, and painted in most of the little details! but the lucky cat’s arm is missing. I’m planning to animate it. Process/tutorial post to follow soon.
